Do you ever snag little stick-like casings while you're fishing? If you haven't already, give the skinny end a slight squeeze and out will pop a caddis! Caddis larva build cylindrical cases to live in for protection out of sediment until ready for emergence. Fortunately for anglers, these cased caddis are abundant and recognized as easy meals when dislodged from the bottom. When caddis emerge there will always be a small faction that get stuck in their casing, creating another opportunity for trout to snatch up vulnerable cased caddis. The Mercury version was popularized by Pat Dorsey, but we like it with a few different beads depending on the situation. Tied with tungsten or glass beads on straight 1x long hooks to achieve proper proportions.
